Matthew Hives,
Director of Information Systems,
CPA

CPA Ltd, a world leader in the management of Intellectual Property (IP) requested that LOC assist the business with the evaluation and selection of a Business Process Management (BPM) tool to map and manage their business processes.  The business identified two distinct drivers for this schedule of work:
  • The desire to build a "mini-renewals application" using the same concepts and technology as proposed for the strategic redevelopment of the renewals system, and;
  • A longer term strategic aspirations to build an end-to-end BPM capability within CPA.
CPA are implementing an Enterprise Content Management system that will become the core driver for business change.  Their choice of BPM tool needed to both align with this strategic change initiative as well as support its delivery.  The capture of business processes forms a core component of the ECM programme and the requirement to utilise a tool that aligned with CPA's long term strategy was core.

LOC adopted a structured approach that analysed the needs of the business and the current market, including product and vendor assessment, and provided a final recommendation that provided the closet 'fit' to the documented requirements.  LOC's approach included the major process steps outlined below:

a)    Confirmation of requirements;

b)    Modelling of an illustrative function;

c)    Stakeholder management;

d)    Review of market offerings;

e)    Management of Proof of Technology build, and;

f)    Validation and recommendation.

The efficiency and thoroughness of this approach was recognised by CPA who have adopted it as their preferred methodology for future product selections.  CPA chose iGrafx as their preferred business process mapping tool.
