The 20th century saw a sustained period of global growth - in population and in economic terms. Much of that growth has been at the expense of the environment with the symptoms of core issues now becoming apparent such as changes to weather systems, melting of polar ice caps etc.
At LOC Consulting, we believe in the importance of protecting our environment for future generations by operating in a sustainable manner. We therefore strive to minimise our environmental impacts such as business transport, energy consumption and waste.
LOC Sustainability Policy
LOC Consulting recognises the current global environmental challenges and supports the Government's strategy for sustainable growth. We are committed to continual reduction of our environmental impact, pollution prevention and legal compliance. In particular our focus is on the most significant sustainability issues:
- Climate Change
- Waste Management
- Use of Water Resources
To ensure a reduced environmental impact we will:
- Understand and manage our environmental impact, seek then maintain ISO14001 accreditation
- Implement programmes to become and remain a sustainable business not just within the company but also where appropriate with our clients and partners
- Have zero carbon emissions, by reducing our consumption of fossil fuels (including our supply chain), substituting with renewable energy or offsetting
- Reduce the volume of waste we produce by increasing reuse or recycling
- Ensure our business activities comply with relevant environmental legislation.
This policy is actively promoted throughout our organisation, and is reviewed annually. We support our employees in good environmental practice, and seek active participation in environmental initiatives.
LOC Consulting achieved ISO14001 accreditation in 2008, thereby ensuring we have the management systems in place to maintain our sustainability policy.
Progress to Date
Our sustainability programme is now developed and progressing well. In six months we expect to:
- Be carbon neutral (through reduced consumption and offsetting as last resort)
- Factor carbon and sustainability into all of our procurement decisions
We have already:
- Achieved ISO14001 accreditation across our business operations
- Increased the operational life of our IT assets to reduce impact from IT disposal
- Increased use of conference calling and home working to minimise travel
- Minimised use of paper and other office consumables
- Implemented a cycle-to-work scheme for all employees
